Assistantships


Duties: Teaching Assistants are typically assigned to assist and/or teach developmental mathematics (Math 1300 or Math 1334) each semester, for a total of no more than 20 hours per week. 

Salary: $10,000 per academic year (9 months). 
There is a possibility that the assistantship will be raised to $12,000 per 9 months pending administrative approval. 
Additional summer support is usually available as well. 

Eligibility: You must be accepted for graduate study at UTPA by the university's Office of Admissions, be a Master's degree seeking student in the Department of Mathematics, and be enrolled as a full-time student during each semester of the assistantship.

  • A Cover Letter, addressed to the Department Chair or Graduate Program Coordinator,  which states that your are applying for the position of Teaching Assistant in the Department of Mathematics and why you believe you are qualified for this appointment.
  • A Completed Application Form - application forms are available here in PDF format, or may be obtained by contacting the Department of Mathematics.

  • A Current Resume, including experience and qualifications related to the position you are applying for,

  • Three Letters Of Recommendation

  • Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work completed to date (unofficial copies are acceptable).
