Fellowships

Multiple Student Research Positions in Mathematics & Electrical Engineering
OTHER:
Fellowships are similar to scholarships but are intended for students who plan to attend graduate school and obtain either a Master's degree or a doctorate (Ph.D.) degree.
The interested student wishing to attend graduate school in the Fall should apply to fellowship agencies one year prior to graduation. Therefore, you should apply to fellowship agencies between October and May if you plan to graduate in May; many national agencies have deadlines in early November or December. Many of these fellowships require essays, letters of recommendations, GRE or subject exams, and grade transcripts. Read the application forms to determine eligibility requirements and materials.
Below, we provide some links to several national fellowship agencies. Some agencies are specific to the disciplines they support and others are more general.
American Association for University Women
DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (January 11, 2006)
Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship for Minorities (November 17, 2005)
GEM National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund (general)
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (November 3, 2005)
National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (January 6, 2006)

Project 1000 is a national program created to assist underrepresented students applying to graduate school. Students may apply up to seven of the over 70 participating Project 1000 institutions by using one application. Participation is free of charge to individual students and to the participating institutions.
We include below a report conducted by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) that describes the graduate education in computational science and engineering.
